On Monday 23rd February Karl McCartney MP visited the Cathedral Heights Brewery following an invitation by Steve Martin and his wife Sammi to come and view their 1,200 square foot premises that now produces a core range of six beers.
Steve first started brewing for their wedding in 2011 using a home-brew kit from Morrisons Supermarket. In those very early days he brewed ‘Just Married’ in a single nine gallon cask in their kitchen.
In early 2013, with the support of family and friends, Steve and Sammi acquired their premises on the Churchill Business Park in Bracebridge Heath and installed a 2.5 BBL (90 gallons) micro-brewery which began production in June 2013. It rapidly added five more beers to the original flagship ale using only the best ingredients, hops and malt to maximise the flavours of their ales.
Bottles and casks are now available directly online from their web site or they can also be collected from the on-site off-licence at the brewery. A number of local pubs, bars and hotels, including the DoubleTree by Hilton on Brayford Wharf, also stock their ales.
Karl was extremely impressed by the substantial growth of Cathedral Heights in the last 20 months and commented: “Steve and Sammi’s incredible success is well deserved. It is a clear demonstration of what can be achieved with hard work and a clear goal in mind that you strive to achieve.
“I am really looking forward to sampling the full range of their current beers in the coming weeks and to tasting and enjoying new beers as they are released in the future. I am also looking forward to seeing Cathedral Heights’ beers at the forthcoming Lincoln Beer Festival and enjoying them on the night of the next General Election.
"Artisan brewing in the UK is an important part of the UK economy. It is fantastic to see the significant increase in these micro breweries who are focussing on quality rather than quantity. When I travel, I always look out for an interesting local real ale to sample. I am delighted that Cathedral Heights Brewery has already established a great reputation with real ale enthusiasts here in my Lincoln Constituency.”
